This is no laughing matter. A facemask is not simply a piece of ‘cloth’ over our faces. A facemask covers your respiratory system. Facemasks are designed to be used by individuals who are suspected or known to be sick with an illness that can spread to healthy individuals by the air they exhaust. The type of facemasks that are mandated for general use by regular people and children are not regulated. Facemasks can be made from organic or synthetic materials. Facemasks may be single use or reusable. Facemasks may be thin or thick, have varying thread counts, and varying number of layers. Facemasks may fit loosely or tightly. Obviously there is a wide gamut.
What is the best type of facemask for you? Personally, if I must wear one I would want to ensure that it is clean and made of organic material, such as cotton or linen. I want it to be breathable! I don’t want it to be too tight so that it pulls on my ears or cinches my head.
If I must wear a facemask, it is for only a few minutes at a time, one hour at the most.
How is it that we are asking children aged 2 and over to wear facemasks for the duration of their time at their ‘care facility’. Often 8 hours a day, 5 days, a week, possibly for every week of the year! YOU, the reader, are likely an adult….please let that previous sentence sink in….if you want kids to wear masks all of the time, please walk in their shoes and join them in masking. Live what you preach!
